This section of Emory River in Morgan County is 7 miles long and is a class II-III section of whitewater according to American Whitewater. If you're coming from Harriman it's not a long drive at all to the starting location, please print out a copy of the road map further down the page so you won’t get lost. The campgrounds here at Emory River are pretty good. The rivers for whitewater rafting and kayaking here in Tennessee are often tougher than in other states, so you'd better keep in mind that lots of rivers here are not for beginners. Since you're
on this site you are probably into whitewater rafting or kayaking, either way around here you'll find a large number of good places. The beautiful Cumberland Plateau Mountains scenery is an added bonus. This is a pretty decent length section, it's perfect for a one day trip. There
are a few other sections in this river system that can be paddled as well. The scenic beauty of Tennessee and the cool fresh water have people coming here. The nearby hotels are a bit away from the river, but if you don’t have reservations you might end up sleeping in your car. Getting some good exercise and just being out on the river for a while will make you glad you came.
Briefly about the general area: The warmest time of the year at Emory River comes with high temperatures in the 80's; during summer nights temperatures are in the 60's.
The winter comes with highs in the 40's, and throughout the dark hours in the wintertime at Emory River temperatures sink to the 20's. Obed Wild & Scenic River is a nice location near Emory River. Emory River commonly gets a good deal of rain; the month with most of the rain is March, and the driest of the months is October.
