If you've been whitewater rafting and kayaking outside Tennessee you might find the rivers here a bit more challenging, so if you're visiting here do keep in mind that rivers here are not as easy as elsewhere. The Gobey Bridge to Oakdale stretch of Emory River in Morgan County is 21.2 miles long and is according to American Whitewater a class II-IV section of whitewater. A good workout and just being out on the river for a while are great attractions for lots of people. There are some good stretches to paddle in this river system, the Gobey Bridge to
Oakdale stretch is one of them. You might be into whitewater rafting or kayaking or both, doesn't matter, around here you'll find a large number of good places. If you hurry you can run this section in a day but why not make it an overnighter, so why not pack your camping stuff
too. If you're coming from Harriman it's not a long drive at all to the put-in location, please print out a copy of the road map further down the page so you won’t get lost. The campgrounds here at Emory River are pretty good. There aren’t any hotels right nearby but if you're willing to drive a short distance then no problem but do book a room before you come because it is a very popular destination. The wonderful Morgan County scenery and the playfulness of the water make the trip here worthwhile. The Cumberland Plateau Mountains scenery is wonderful.

Highs through the winter are frequently in the 40's, and throughout the dark hours in the winter at Emory River temperatures drop to the 20's. Emory River sees pretty high levels of rainfall; most of the rain falls through March, and the driest month is October.
