This stretch of French Broad in Cocke County is 18 miles long and has been rated as a class I-III section by American Whitewater. You can pitch a tent or park your RV at a nearby campground. The natural beauty of Tennessee and the cool fresh water are reasons enough to come here and paddle. This section is long enough for an overnight trip if you take your time, so why not pack your camp stove too. Getting a good workout and spending some     quality time in nature will have you coming back for more. There are plenty of other stretches in this river system that can be paddled as well. Whitewater rafting and kayaking in Tennessee is often tougher than elsewhere, so don't forget that a lot of the rivers here are not suitable for beginners. You might have to settle for a hotel a bit away from the river if you want to stay the night, but you'd better reserve in advance because these hotels fill up quick. The river winds through the Great Smoky Mountains and you get great scenery. No matter if you're whitewater rafting or kayaking this area has a large number of paddling spots. If the weather is splendid here at French Broad, you can go for a hike along   the Meadow Creek Mountain Trail, and a short journey to Sulphur Spring is always worthwhile. A visit to French Broad wouldn't be complete without taking a look at Sulphur Spring, and nearby Peach Orchard Gap is a great place to go. French Broad sees pretty high levels of precipitation; May is the month that gets the most rain while October is regularly the driest month. This is a really good river. The Gum Springs Trail is a great hiking trail next to French Broad. For the duration of the summer months highs here at French Broad reach the 80's. Throughout the moonlight hours it's generally in the 60's. Through the wintertime highs are ordinarily in the 40's, and winter nights come with lows in the 20's to French Broad.
