The starting location is a reasonable drive from Newport, as you can see on the road map further down. The Hot Springs to Highway 107 at Del Rio section of French Broad in Tennessee is 18 miles long and is a class I-III section of whitewater according to American Whitewater. There aren’t any hotels right nearby but if you're willing to drive a short distance then no problem but do book a room before you come because it is a very popular destination. The wonderful Tennessee scenery and the beautiful way the water current moves down the stream have people
coming here. Getting some good exercise and a chance to spend some time outdoors will make you glad you came. If you have the time you can make this a two day trip, so why not pack your camp stove too. The river winds through the Great Smoky Mountains and you get great scenery.
If you've been whitewater rafting and kayaking outside this state you might find the rivers here a bit more challenging, so you'd better keep in mind that many of the rivers here are not very forgiving. This river system is full of great paddling stretches, the Hot Springs to Highway 107 at Del Rio stretch is just one of them. Whether you're whitewater rafting or kayaking there are lots of good spots for that around here. And of course, there are campgrounds nearby.
Briefly about the general area: French Broad sees pretty high levels of rainfall;
the month of May is the wettest with most of the rain, and the driest month is October. Coming to this river is always a good idea. You might want to pay a visit to Peach Orchard Gap if you're here at French Broad. All the outdoors entertaining stuff in the Great Smoky Mountains
will keep you coming back again and again. Put some time aside to spend at Sulphur Spring while you're here at French Broad, and if you're here you can take a hike along the Gum Springs Trail. At French Broad all through the summer highs are in the 80's, and through the night it
cools down to the 60's. Highs all through the wintertime are ordinarily in the 40's while French Broad overnight low temperatures during the wintertime are in the 20's. It's always splendid to go to Sulphur Spring, and you can have a nice hiking adventure along the Meadow Creek Mountain Trail.
