This stretch of French Broad is 18 miles long and is rated by American Whitewater as a class I-III section. The sections for whitewater rafting and kayaking here in Tennessee are often more challenging than in other states, so if you're not from around here don't forget that rivers here are less forgiving. Not too many hotels nearby, you'll have to drive a bit to get to one, but do book a room before you come because it is a very popular destination. Whitewater paddling here in the Great Smoky Mountains is a great experience. No matter if you're whitewater
rafting or kayaking this is an area with plenty of places for that. The starting point is not too far from Newport, please print out a copy of the road map further down the page so you won’t get lost. The scenic beauty of Cocke County and the cool fresh water make the trip here
worthwhile. There are campgrounds quite near the river where you can camp. There are so many stretches to paddle in this river system, the Hot Springs to Highway 107 at Del Rio stretch is just one of many. Getting a good workout and just hanging out with mother nature have a lot of people coming here. If you have the time you can make this a two day trip, so why not pack your camp stove too.

Broad get into the 80's. All through the moonlight hours it's frequently in the 60's. Highs through the wintertime are commonly in the 40's while French Broad nighttime low temperatures through the wintertime are in the 20's. Hiking along the Meadow Creek Mountain Trail is delightful
fun; a trip to French Broad wouldn't be complete without taking a look at Sulphur Spring. French Broad gets much water; all through the month of May you get the most rain around here; October is the month with the least moisture.
