The put-in is not too far from Athens, there's a road map further down the page with more info on that. The hike up back to parking area stretch is the only paddling stretch along Gee Creek. This section is very short so you'll have to walk back to the start over and over. Getting some good exercise and just being out on the river for a while are great attractions for lots of people. Whitewater rafting and kayaking in Tennessee     is often tougher than elsewhere, so if you're visiting here do keep in mind that many of the sections here are not safe for beginners. No matter if you're whitewater rafting or kayaking there are lots of good spots for that around here. You might have to settle for a hotel a bit away from the river if you want to stay the night, but you'd better reserve in advance because these hotels fill up quick. The hike up back to parking area section of Gee Creek in Polk County is 1 miles long and has been rated as a class IV-V section by American Whitewater. The campgrounds here at Gee Creek are pretty good. Briefly about the general area: Have a glorious hiking adventure along the Gee Creek Trail, and Hiwassee Gap is another nice site to stop by nearby. The high level of precipitation makes Gee Creek a pretty wet place; March   is the month that gets the most rain, and the driest month of the year is October. Going for a hike along the Fishermans Trail will let you absorb the natural beauty of this region. Through the warm days of summer at Gee Creek temperatures are ordinarily in the 80's with nighttime lows in the 60's. The cold days of the wintertime come with highs in the 40's while Gee Creek overnight low temperatures all through the wintertime are in the 20's.
