Tennessee whitewater - Goforth Creek, Great Smoky Mountains, Polk County Polk county, to Ocoee section whitewater kayaking, rafting, and paddling information.   CLASS IV-V     5 miles   The to Ocoee section of Goforth Creek in Polk County is 5 miles long and is a class IV-V section of whitewater according to American Whitewater. The wonderful Tennessee scenery and the playfulness of the water will make you feel great. This is a pretty decent length section, it's good length for a morning trip. For all you camping people there are campgrounds nearby. When you're paddling down a Great Smoky Mountains river like this one you always get great scenery along the way too. The average Tennessee whitewater rafting or kayaking river tends to be     harder to run than those in other states, so you'd better keep in mind that the rivers in this state are less manageable. This is the only paddling stretch along Goforth Creek. Since you're on this site you are probably into whitewater rafting or kayaking, either way around here you'll find a large number of good places. There aren’t any hotels right nearby but if you're willing to drive a short distance then no problem and if you make reservations in advance you're all set. The put-in location is a short drive from Cleveland, as you can see on the road map further down. A bit of exercise and just being out on the river for a while are great reasons to come. Briefly about the general area: At Goforth Creek throughout the summertime months highs are in the 80's, and during the night it cools down to the 60's. During   the wintertime the highs are generally in the 40's, and through the dark hours in the winter at Goforth Creek temperatures plunge to the 20's. The high level of precipitation makes Goforth Creek a relatively wet place; March is when you get the most rain here while October is the month with the least amount of precipitation. So much exciting stuff in the Great Smoky Mountains, just amazing. The Rogers Branch Trail is a great hiking trail in close proximity to Goforth Creek, and close by you locate the Dry Pond Lead Trail which is a splendid hiking trail.
