This stretch of Holston River in Tennessee is 10 miles long and is a class I-II section of whitewater according to American Whitewater. The nature scenery of Sullivan County and the cool fresh water are reasons enough to come here and paddle. And of course, there are campgrounds nearby. Not too many hotels nearby, you'll have to drive a bit to get to one, but do book a room before you come because it is a very popular destination.     Getting some good exercise and just being out on the river for a while are great attractions for lots of people. This river system has a few good paddling sections and the South Holston Dam to Boone Lake section is one of them. This stretch is long enough for an overnight trip if you take your time, so pack your camping stuff. If you've been whitewater rafting and kayaking outside Tennessee you might find the rivers here a bit more challenging, so if you're not from around here don't forget that quite a few of the sections here are not easy. Briefly about the general area: If you're here, you might as well take a look at Harrington Hollow. Through the days of summer, highs typically are in the 80's at Holston River. Once the sun is down it drops down to the 60's. The winter comes with highs in the 40's; overnight lows   in the 20's for Holston River. Holston River gets a good deal of water; July is when you get the most rain here while October is usually the driest month.
