Whitewater rafting and kayaking spots in this state tend to be more challenging than the national average, so don't forget that many of the rivers here are not very forgiving. The wonderful Tennessee scenery and the sparkling of the sunlight on the water are in themselves reasons enough to come here to paddle. The campgrounds here at Hurricane Creek are pretty good. This stretch of Hurricane Creek in Fentress County is 4 miles long and it is classified as a class IV-V section by American Whitewater. Great exercise and a chance to spend some time outdoors
are great reasons to come. Whitewater paddling here in the Cumberland Plateau Mountains is a great experience. This is the only paddling section along Hurricane Creek. The put-in location is a reasonable drive from Crossville, as you can see on the road map further down. The nearby
hotels are a bit away from the river, but if you don’t have reservations you might end up sleeping in your car. You might be into whitewater rafting or kayaking or both, doesn't matter, this is an area with plenty of places for that. This section is long enough to enjoy a good non stop paddle, suitable for an afternoon trip.

Hurricane Creek, high temperatures ordinarily reach the 80's. For the period of the moonlight hours it's regularly in the 60's. Daytime highs during the wintertime are in the 40's; night lows at Hurricane Creek throughout the winter mostly dip into the 20's. Balden Gulf is a splendid spot to spend some time at.
