The put-in is not too far from Harriman, there's a road map further down the page with more info on that. The rivers for whitewater rafting and kayaking in this state are often tougher than in other states, so you'd better keep in mind that many of the sections here are not safe for beginners. The beautiful scenery of Tennessee and the beautiful way the water current moves down the stream make the trip here worthwhile. You can pitch a tent or park your RV at a nearby campground. Getting a good workout and just being out on the river for a while will have
you coming back for more. There aren’t any hotels right nearby but if you're willing to drive a short distance then no problem but you'd better reserve in advance because these hotels fill up quick. This is a bit of a short stretch so it's not like you're gonna spend hours on the
river in one stretch. Since you're on this site you are probably into whitewater rafting or kayaking, either way in this general area you'll find lots of paddling places. There are some good sections to paddle in this river system, the Catoosa Bridge to Emory River section is one of them. The beautiful Cumberland Plateau Mountains scenery is an added bonus. This stretch of Island Creek is 2 miles long and has been determined by American Whitewater to be a class III-IV+ section.

spot; March is the month that gets the most rain while October is the month with the least amount of precipitation. Through the summertime at Island Creek highs are frequently in the 80's while nighttime lows are typically in the 60's. For the period of the winter highs are in the 40's while Island Creek night low temperatures throughout the wintertime are in the 20's.
