If you've been whitewater rafting and kayaking outside Tennessee you might find the rivers here a bit more challenging, so if you're not from around here don't forget that a large number of rivers in this state are not easy. This stretch of Island Creek in Morgan County is 2 miles long and has been rated as a class III-IV+ section by American Whitewater. The starting point is not too far from Harriman, as you can see on the road map further down. Getting some good exercise and spending some quality time in nature are great attractions for lots of people.
There aren’t any hotels right nearby but if you're willing to drive a short distance then no problem but you'd better reserve in advance because these hotels fill up quick. The wonderful Tennessee scenery and the water flowing gracefully down Island Creek make the trip here worthwhile.
There are campgrounds quite near the river where you can camp. Since you're on this site you are probably into whitewater rafting or kayaking, either way this is an area with plenty of spots for that. This section is quite short so you'll have to walk back to the start over and over. The Cumberland Plateau Mountains scenery is wonderful. This river system has a few good paddling stretches and the Catoosa Bridge to Emory River section is one of them.

here, and Obed Wild & Scenic River is one of the destinations that are magnificent to explore nearby. A good deal of rain falls at Island Creek; through March this area sees the most rain, and the driest month is October. If you love the outdoors you'll love it here in the
Cumberland Plateau Mountains. For the duration of the long summer days, highs regularly are in the 80's at Island Creek, and the nighttime is slightly chillier of course, frequently in the 60's. Highs all through the winter are commonly in the 40's while the cold winter nights at Island Creek are in the 20's.
