The put-in location is a reasonable drive from Harriman, please print out a copy of the road map further down the page so you won’t get lost. The rivers for whitewater rafting and kayaking in this state are often tougher than in other states, so if you're visiting here do keep in mind that rivers here are not as easy as elsewhere. The Catoosa Bridge to Emory River stretch of Island Creek is 2 miles long and it is classified as a class III-IV+ section by American Whitewater. This stretch is short so better bring some good walking shoes. Not too many hotels
nearby, you'll have to drive a bit to get to one, but you'd better reserve in advance because these hotels fill up quick. This is one of a small number of paddling sections in this river system, there are a few others too. A good workout and spending some quality time in nature
are great reasons to come. Some people prefer whitewater rafting and some kayaking, either way this is an area with plenty of rivers for that. The Cumberland Plateau Mountains scenery is wonderful. The campgrounds here at Island Creek are pretty good. The nature scenery of Morgan County and the cool fresh water attract people from near and far.
Briefly about the general area: Put some time aside to spend at Nemo Rapids since you're here at Island Creek, and do pay a visit to Obed Wild & Scenic River since you're here at Island Creek. Now, you
may assume that's lots but there's even more enjoyable things to do here in the Cumberland Plateau Mountains. Through the warmest time of the year highs here at Island Creek reach the 80's while overnight lows are commonly in the 60's. The wintertime brings highs down to the
40's while the cold winter nights at Island Creek are in the 20's. All the water falling down from the sky makes Island Creek a wet place; the month of March is the wettest with most of the rain while October is generally the driest month.
