This stretch of Island Creek in Tennessee is 6 miles long and has been determined by American Whitewater to be a class III-IV section. The put-in is not too far from Harriman, if you're not familiar with the area there's a road map further down the page. This river system has a few good paddling sections and the Catoosa Road to Catoosa Bridge section is one of them. Getting some good exercise and just being out on the river for a while will make you glad you came. The nearby hotels are a bit away from the river, and if you make reservations in advance
you're all set. Whitewater rafting and kayaking in this state is often more difficult than elsewhere, so if you're not from around here don't forget that the rivers in this state are less manageable. The wonderful Tennessee scenery and the sparkling of the sunlight on the water
have people coming here. This section is long enough to enjoy a good non stop paddle, you can easily run it on an afternoon. Whitewater paddling here in the Cumberland Plateau Mountains is a great experience. You can pitch a tent or park your RV at a nearby campground. Whether you're whitewater rafting or kayaking in this general area you'll find lots of paddling rivers.

get the most rain around here, and the driest month of the year is October. High temperatures at Island Creek all through the summertime are in the 80's with overnight lows in the 60's. For the duration of the winter the highs are typically in the 40's with winter lows in the 20's overnight here at Island Creek.
