The scenic beauty of Tennessee and the playfulness of the water attract people from near and far. Whitewater rafting and kayaking spots in Tennessee are harder than the national norm, so if you're visiting here do keep in mind that many of the rivers here are not very forgiving. The campgrounds here at Laurel Creek are pretty good. Whitewater paddling here in the Great Smoky Mountains is a great experience. This section is very short so you'd better be prepared to walk your kayak back to put-in a few times. There aren’t any hotels right nearby but if you're willing to drive a short distance then no problem and if you make reservations in advance you're all set. Laurel Creek doesn't have a lot of paddling stretches, the to Tellico right below Turkey Creek Confluence stretch is the only one. Great exercise and just hanging out with mother nature are great reasons to come. Briefly about the general area: Yeah, come up here to the Great Smoky Mountains for a perfect time.   While you're here at Laurel Creek you can take a hike along the Cow Camp Trail. If the weather is brilliant here at Laurel Creek, you can go for a hike along the Basin Gap Trail, and Bald River Falls is a perfect local attraction. Laurel Creek is a relatively wet place frequently with a lot of rain; of all the months in a year March is the one with the most rain; the driest month is October. For the period of the summer months at Laurel Creek highs are generally in the 80's, and through the night it cools down to the 60's. The winter brings highs down to the 40's, and night lows in the 20's for Laurel Creek.
