If you've been whitewater rafting and kayaking outside this state you might find the rivers here a bit more challenging, so don't forget that a lot of the rivers here are not suitable for beginners. The natural beauty of Tennessee and the beautiful way the water current moves down the stream are reasons enough to come here and paddle. This stretch is very short so it's not like you're gonna spend hours on the river in one stretch. When you're paddling down a Great Smoky Mountains river like this one you always get great scenery along the way too. There
aren’t any hotels right nearby but if you're willing to drive a short distance then no problem but do book a room before you come because it is a very popular destination. If you're coming from Athens it's not a long drive at all to the put-in location, as you can see on the road
map further down. No matter if you're whitewater rafting or kayaking this area has a large number of paddling rivers. There's camping available near Laurel Creek. This stretch of Laurel Creek in Monroe County is 0.2 miles long and is rated by American Whitewater as a class V section. Great exercise and just hanging out with mother nature will have you coming back for more. This is the only paddling section along Laurel Creek.
