Tennessee whitewater - Little River, Great Smoky Mountains, Sevier County

Sevier county, Huskey Gap Branch to Elkmont C.Highway section whitewater kayaking, rafting, and paddling information.

CLASS III-IV     2.2 miles
Whitewater rafting and kayaking spots in Tennessee are harder than the national norm, so you'd better keep in mind that many runs in this state are not easy. The starting location is a reasonable drive from Sevierville, there's a road map further down the page with more info on that. Getting a good workout and a chance to spend some time outdoors have a lot of people coming here. No need to look hard for hotels, but you'd better reserve in advance because these hotels fill up quick. The beautiful scenery of Tennessee and the playfulness of the water are
in themselves reasons enough to come here to paddle. This stretch of Little River is 2.2 miles long and has been rated as a class III-IV section by American Whitewater. The Huskey Gap Branch to Elkmont C.Highway section is one of many paddling sections in this river system. There
are campgrounds quite near the river where you can camp. You might be into whitewater rafting or kayaking or both, doesn't matter, around here you'll find a large number of good rivers. This is a short paddling stretch so you'd better be prepared to walk your kayak back to put-in a few times. The beautiful Great Smoky Mountains scenery is an added bonus.

Briefly about the general area:
Little River typically gets much rain; March is when you get the most rain here; October on the other hand is the driest. During the warm months, highs usually

are in the 80's at Little River; the nighttime is a little chillier of course, usually in the 60's. During the winter highs are in the 40's, and through the dark hours in the wintertime at Little River temperatures drop to the 20's.
You just can't picture the amount of outdoors fun stuff the Great Smoky Mountains has to offer. If you're here, you might as well pop by Coon Hollow, and hiking along the Jakes Creek Trail is good fun. Coming to this river is always a good idea. Hit the slopes at Ober Gatlinburg in the vicinity, and Little River is right by the Sugarland Mountain Trail.
