county,
Huskey Gap Branch to Elkmont C.Highway section whitewater kayaking, rafting, and paddling information.
CLASS III-IV 2.2 miles
The starting point is not too far from Sevierville, there's a road map further down the page with more info on that. The Huskey Gap Branch to Elkmont C.Highway section of Little River is 2.2 miles long and is a class III-IV section of whitewater according to American Whitewater. The sections for whitewater rafting and kayaking here in Tennessee are often more challenging than in other states, so if you're not from around here don't forget that many of the sections here are not safe for beginners. This is a short paddling stretch so no need to bring snacks.
Getting your paddling muscles activated and a chance to spend some time outdoors will have you coming back for more. If you'll be staying in a hotel you're in luck, lodging is available very near the river, but do book a room before you come because it is a very popular destination.
The nature scenery of Tennessee and the water flowing gracefully down Little River have people coming here. This is not the only paddling stretch in this river system, there are others too. When you're paddling down a Great Smoky Mountains river like this one you always get great scenery along the way too. You can pitch a tent or park your RV at a nearby campground. Some people prefer whitewater rafting and some kayaking, either way this is an area with plenty of spots for that.
Briefly about the general area: This river is a wonderful place
to visit. The high level of rain makes Little River a reasonably wet location; through the month of March you get the most rain around here, and October is when it's the driest. The warmest time of the year brings highs in the 80's to Little River, and the night is a tad chillier
of course, usually in the 60's. All through the wintertime the highs are frequently in the 40's; overnight lows at Little River during the wintertime typically sink into the 20's. If you crave a little side visit, try Coon Hollow, and Ober Gatlinburg is a magnificent local ski
area. Be careful coming to the Great Smoky Mountains, you might not ever wanna return back home again. On a fine day at Little River you can take a hike along the Sugarland Mountain Trail, and the Jakes Creek Trail is a pleasant hiking trail close by.
