The Dam at Melrose to Tennessee River stretch of Little River in Blount County is 22 miles long and is a class I section of whitewater according to American Whitewater. The scenic beauty of Tennessee and the sparkling of the sunlight on the water attract people from near and far. Whitewater rafting and kayaking in Tennessee is often more difficult than elsewhere, so keep in mind that quite a few of the sections here are not easy. If you're a camper you can camp at one of the great campgrounds nearby. There aren’t any hotels right nearby but if you're willing
to drive a short distance then no problem and if you make reservations in advance you're all set. Great exercise and just being out on the river for a while have people coming from far and near. If you're coming from Knoxville it's not a long drive at all to the put-in location,
please print out a copy of the road map further down the page so you won’t get lost. You might be into whitewater rafting or kayaking or both, doesn't matter, this is an area with plenty of rivers for that. If you have the time you can make this a two day trip, so go ahead and pack your camping stuff.
Briefly about the general area: Throughout the summertime months at Little River highs are commonly in the 80's, and through the night it cools down to the 60's. The winter comes with highs in the 40's, and overnight lows at Little River through
the wintertime frequently fall into the 20's. A delightful spot to visit next to Little River is Tarkiln Valley; Horseshoe Bend is a magnificent place to explore while in the region. The high level of rainfall makes Little River a pretty wet location; the wettest month of the year is typically March, that's the one that rains the most, and the driest month of the year is October.
