The Hendon Road to Coulterville Road stretch of McGill Creek in Tennessee is 7 miles long and has been determined by American Whitewater to be a class IV-V section. If you've been whitewater rafting and kayaking outside Tennessee you might find the rivers here a bit more challenging, so if you're visiting here do keep in mind that lots of rivers here are not for beginners. This is a pretty decent length section, you can easily run it on an afternoon. Whitewater paddling here in the Cumberland Plateau Mountains is a great experience. There aren’t any hotels
right nearby but if you're willing to drive a short distance then no problem but do book a room before you come because it is a very popular destination. The Hendon Road to Coulterville Road section is the only paddling section along McGill Creek. There are campgrounds quite near
the river where you can camp. A bit of exercise and just being out on the river for a while have a lot of people coming here. If you're coming from Chattanooga it's not a long drive at all to the starting location, there's a road map further down the page with more info on that. The scenic beauty of Bledsoe / Hamilton County and the beautiful way the water current moves down the stream are reasons enough to come here and paddle. Since you're on this site you are probably into whitewater rafting or kayaking, either way around here you'll find a large number
of good rivers.
Briefly about the general area: Near McGill Creek you find Sulphur Spring Hollow which is a delightful site to take a look at, and don't forget to explore Hurricane Point since you're here. Lots of precipitation falls at McGill Creek; the month of March
is the wettest with most of the rain, and October on the other hand is the driest. Life's too short to enjoy all the fun stuff in the Cumberland Plateau Mountains. It's always delightful to pop by Hart Spring. All through the warmest time of the year at McGill Creek temperatures
are ordinarily in the 80's. For the period of the moonlight hours it's mostly in the 60's. High temperatures during the wintertime are normally in the 40's while the cold winter nights at McGill Creek are in the 20's.
