The Prentice Cooper State Park to Mullens Cove section of Mullens Creek in Marion County is 4 miles long and is a class IV-V(V+) section of whitewater according to American Whitewater. The natural beauty of Marion County and the cool fresh water are reasons enough to come here and paddle. You might have to settle for a hotel a bit away from the river if you want to stay the night, but if you don’t have reservations you might end up sleeping in your car. The average whitewater rafting or kayaking river tends to be a bit harder to master in this state
than those in other states, so if you're visiting here do keep in mind that lots of rivers here are not for beginners. This stretch has has enough mileage, you can easily run it on an afternoon. The campgrounds here at Mullens Creek are pretty good. Some people prefer whitewater
rafting and some kayaking, either way in this general area you'll find lots of paddling rivers. Mullens Creek doesn't have a lot of paddling stretches, the Prentice Cooper State Park to Mullens Cove stretch is the only one. The starting point is not too far from Chattanooga, if you're not familiar with the area there's a road map further down the page. A good workout and a chance to spend some time outdoors have people coming from far and near. The beauty of the Cumberland Plateau Mountains is a great plus for this river.
