The Nolichucky Gorge Campground to Jackson Love Bridge stretch of Nolichucky River in Unicoi County is 3 miles long and has been determined by American Whitewater to be a class I-II(III) section. Whitewater rafting and kayaking spots in Tennessee are harder than the national norm, so better not forget that rivers here are less forgiving. This is not the only paddling section in this river system, there are others too. The starting location is a reasonable drive from Johnson City, if you're not familiar with the area there's a road map further down the page.
You can pitch a tent or park your RV at a nearby campground. Getting some good exercise and a chance to spend some time outdoors will have you coming back for more. The beautiful scenery of Unicoi County and the water flowing gracefully down Nolichucky River are in themselves reasons
enough to come here to paddle. This section is quite short so you'd better be prepared to walk your kayak back to put-in a few times. If you'll be staying in a hotel you're in luck, lodging is available very near the river, but if you don’t have reservations you might end up sleeping in your car. The beautiful Great Smoky Mountains scenery is an added bonus. Whether you're whitewater rafting or kayaking around here you'll find a large number of good rivers.
