  If you're coming from Johnson City it's not a long drive at all to the put-in location, please print out a copy of the road map further down the page so you won’t get lost. The wonderful Tennessee scenery and the sparkling of the sunlight on the water are in themselves reasons enough to come here to paddle. Getting your paddling muscles activated and just hanging out with mother nature will have you coming back for more. This section is long enough to enjoy a good non stop paddle, you can easily run it on an afternoon. There are plenty of hotels here
    if you want to spend a night, but do book a room before you come because it is a very popular destination. This stretch of Nolichucky River is 8 miles long and has been determined by American Whitewater to be a class III-IV section. This is not the only paddling stretch in this
river system, there are others too. There's camping available near Nolichucky River. You might be into whitewater rafting or kayaking or both, doesn't matter, this area has a large number of paddling spots. The river winds through the Great Smoky Mountains and you get great scenery. The average whitewater rafting or kayaking river tends to be a bit harder to master in this state than those in other states, so better not forget that many of the sections here are not safe for beginners.

Throughout the summer months
 
highs here at Nolichucky River get into the 80's, and the night is quite colder of course, frequently in the 60's. Through the wintertime the highs are ordinarily in the 40's, and after the sun is down during the wintertime temperatures at Nolichucky River sink into the 20's. If you love the outdoors you'll love it here in the Great Smoky Mountains. Cane Bottom is an out of the ordinary spot to visit while at Nolichucky River, and the No Business Trail offers hiking at its best.
This river is so great. A good spot to take a look at close to Nolichucky River is Curley Maple Gap, and hiking is a popular thing to do around Nolichucky River; Nolichucky River Trail is a great local trail. Nolichucky River is a wet spot that gets a lot of rainfall; during July this area sees the most rain, and October meanwhile is the driest month.
