Says Sharon Maddox The put-in location is a short drive from Crossville, if you're not familiar with the area there's a road map further down the page. The beautiful scenery of Cumberland/ Morgan County and the beautiful way the water current moves down the stream are in themselves reasons enough to come here to paddle. The US 127 Close to Crossville to Adams Bridge stretch of Obed River is 9.6 miles long and is according to American     Whitewater a class I-V section of whitewater. A good workout and just being out on the river for a while are sure to keep you coming back for more. You can pitch a tent or park your RV at a nearby campground. The beauty of the Cumberland Plateau Mountains is a great plus for this river. Some people prefer whitewater rafting and some kayaking, either way there are lots of good rivers for that around here. Whitewater rafting and kayaking spots in Tennessee tend to be more challenging than the national average, so if you're visiting here do keep in mind that many runs in this state are not easy. There are some good hotels near the river, but you'd better reserve in advance because these hotels fill up quick. This stretch is mid length, it's good length for a morning trip. There are plenty of other sections in this river system that   can be paddled as well. Briefly about the general area: Interesting geology is available here; Gould Bend is in the neighborhood of Obed River; Babcock Hollow is another glorious place to go to nearby. There's no way anyone can get bored here in the Cumberland Plateau Mountains. Lots of folks from Crossville come to Obed River. Obed River sees pretty high levels of rain; of all the months in a year March is the one with the most rain; October meanwhile is the driest month. During the summer months at Obed River temperatures are frequently in the 80's. Throughout the moonlight hours it's typically in the 60's. High temperatures through the wintertime are normally in the 40's; through the dark hours in the wintertime at Obed River temperatures dip to the 20's.
