If you've been whitewater rafting and kayaking outside Tennessee you might find the rivers here a bit more challenging, so you'd better keep in mind that lots of rivers here are not for beginners. Whitewater paddling here in the Cumberland Plateau Mountains is a great experience. You can enjoy this section more if you take your time, so go ahead and pack your camp stove. Getting a good workout and just hanging out with mother nature     are great reasons to come. The nearby hotels are a bit away from the river, but you'd better reserve in advance because these hotels fill up quick. There are plenty of other stretches in this river system that can be paddled as well. The wonderful Tennessee scenery and the cool fresh water will make you feel great. You might be into whitewater rafting or kayaking or both, doesn't matter, around here you'll find a large number of good places. If you're coming from Harriman it's not a long drive at all to the put-in location, please print out a copy of the road map further down the page so you won’t get lost. Briefly about the general area: Ohmigod Rapids is an inspiring spot to stop at during your stay; the beauty of mother nature reveals herself at Rock Garden Rapids.   During the warm months highs here at Obed River get into the 80's, and through the night it cools down to the 60's. The winter brings highs down to the 40's, and after the sun is down throughout the winter temperatures at Obed River descend into the 20's. Lots of rain falls at Obed River; during March this area sees the most rain; the driest month of the year is October.
