The sections for whitewater rafting and kayaking here in Tennessee are often more challenging than in other states, so don't forget that the rivers in this state are less manageable. The put-in location is a short drive from Harriman, as you can see on the road map further down. The nearby hotels are a bit away from the river, and if you make reservations in advance you're all set. No matter if you're     whitewater rafting or kayaking there are lots of good places for that around here. This section of Obed River in Tennessee is 7 miles long and is rated by American Whitewater as a class I-III section. This stretch is mid length, good for a one day paddling trip. Great exercise and spending some quality time in nature are great attractions for lots of people. If you're a camper you can camp at one of the great campgrounds nearby. The wild scenery of the Cumberland Plateau Mountains is great. This river system is full of great paddling stretches, the Nemo to Oakdale stretch is just one of them. Briefly about the general area: Obed River is a wet spot that gets a large amount of precipitation; the month with most of the rain is March; the driest of the months is October. Obed Wild & Scenic River is a tremendous place near   Obed River. Throughout the summertime months highs here at Obed River get into the 80's with night lows in the 60's. Highs through the wintertime are commonly in the 40's with temperatures at Obed River dipping down into the 20's through winter nights.
