The starting location is a short drive from Cleveland, if you're not familiar with the area there's a road map further down the page. This stretch of Ocoee River in Polk County is
5 miles long and is rated by American Whitewater as a class III+ section. The average whitewater rafting or kayaking river tends to be a bit harder to master in this state than those in other states, so keep in mind that a lot of the rivers here are not suitable for beginners.
Whether you're whitewater rafting or kayaking in this general area you'll find lots of paddling spots. This stretch has has enough mileage, suitable for an afternoon trip. The wild scenery of the Great Smoky Mountains is great. There's camping available near Ocoee River. This river system has a few good paddling sections and the #2 Dam to #2 Powerhouse section is one of them. The wonderful Tennessee scenery and the beautiful way the water current moves down the stream will make you feel great. You might have to settle for a hotel a bit away from the river
if you want to stay the night, but you'd better reserve in advance because these hotels fill up quick. Great exercise and a chance to spend some time outdoors are great attractions for lots of people.
