The sections for whitewater rafting and kayaking here in Tennessee are often more challenging than in other states, so better not forget that quite a few of the sections here are
not easy. The scenic beauty of Polk County and the beautiful way the water current moves down the stream attract people from near and far. Since you're on this site you are probably into whitewater rafting or kayaking, either way this area has a large number of paddling rivers.
The put-in location is a reasonable drive from Cleveland, there's a road map further down the page with more info on that. Getting your paddling muscles activated and just being out on the river for a while are great reasons to come. The #2 Dam to #2 Powerhouse stretch is one of a few paddling stretches in this river system. You can pitch a tent or park your RV at a nearby campground. Whitewater paddling here in the Great Smoky Mountains is a great experience. This section of Ocoee River is 5 miles long and it is classified as a class III+ section by American
Whitewater. You might have to settle for a hotel a bit away from the river if you want to stay the night, but if you don’t have reservations you might end up sleeping in your car. On this section you do get some distance, it's perfect for a one day trip.

general area: Eaststep Gap is a delightful place to spend some time at, and you can have a splendid hiking adventure along the Caney Creek Trail. During the warm days of summer at Ocoee River highs are generally in the 80's while nighttime lows are ordinarily in the 60's. High
temperatures throughout the winter are normally in the 40's with temperatures at Ocoee River dipping down into the 20's through winter nights. If you want a splendid time in the great outdoors just come on up to the Great Smoky Mountains. Take a hike on the Indian Flat Trail.
