The nature scenery of Tennessee and the playfulness of the water are in themselves reasons enough to come here to paddle. This stretch of Ocoee River is 5 miles long and is rated by American Whitewater as a class III-IV section. Since you're on this site you are probably into whitewater rafting or kayaking, either way in this general area you'll find lots of paddling rivers. The average Tennessee whitewater rafting or kayaking river tends to be a bit harder to master than those in other states, so if you're visiting here do keep in mind that a large
number of rivers in this state are not easy. There are a few other sections in this river system that can be paddled as well. If you're a camper you can camp at one of the great campgrounds nearby. If you're coming from Cleveland it's not a long drive at all to the starting location,
if you're not familiar with the area there's a road map further down the page. The beauty of the Great Smoky Mountains is a great plus for this river. This section is long enough to enjoy a good non stop paddle, suitable for an afternoon trip. A bit of exercise and a chance to spend some time outdoors are great attractions for lots of people. Not too many hotels nearby, you'll have to drive a bit to get to one, but you'd better reserve in advance because these hotels fill up quick.
Briefly about the general area: Ocoee River sees pretty high
levels of rainfall; all through the month of March you get the most rain around here, and the driest month is October. All the outdoors amusing things in the Great Smoky Mountains will keep you coming back repeatedly. There is a good hiking trail next to Ocoee River called the
Dry Pond Lead Trail. The Rogers Branch Trail is a great hiking trail close to Ocoee River; you could always look at Pressley Cove. For the period of the summer months at Ocoee River highs are frequently in the 80's. Once the sun is down it plunges down to the 60's. For the period of the wintertime highs are generally in the 40's while the cold winter nights at Ocoee River are in the 20's.
