The Walter's Power Plant at Waterville to Bridge at Hartford section of Pigeon River is 4.2 miles long and has been determined by American Whitewater to be a class II-III section. Whether you're whitewater rafting or kayaking around here you'll find a large number of good places. The nearby hotels are a bit away from the river, but if you don’t have reservations you might end up sleeping in your car. Briefly about the general area: So many enjoyable things to do in the Great Smoky Mountains, not enough time. Go for a hike   on the Baxter Creek Trail. Summertime highs at Pigeon River usually tend to be in the 80's. When the night sets in temperatures plunge down into the 60's. The cold days of the winter come with highs in the 40's; winter nights come with lows in the 20's to Pigeon River. Pigeon River is close to Moore Hollow which is positively worth stopping at; there are great places to look at along the Stone Mountain Trail. The high level of precipitation makes Pigeon River a pretty wet place; May is the wettest month with most rain, and the driest month is October.
