This section of Piney Creek is 11.1 miles long and is rated by American Whitewater as a class III-V section. The average whitewater rafting or kayaking river tends to be a bit harder to master in this state than those in other states, so better not forget that a lot of the rivers here are not suitable for beginners. There's camping available near Piney Creek. Piney Creek are reasons enough to come here and paddle. If you're coming from Harriman it's not a long drive at all to the put-in location, if you're not familiar with the area there's a road map further down the page. You can enjoy this stretch more if you take your time, so why not pack your camping stuff too. A good workout and spending some quality time in nature have a lot of people coming here. This is one of a small number of paddling sections in this river system, there are a few others too.
Briefly about the general area: The high level
of rain makes Piney Creek a reasonably wet place; March is the wettest month with most rain while October is generally the driest month. High temperatures at Piney Creek through the summer are in the 80's, and the overnight is a tad chillier of course, ordinarily in the 60's. All
through the winter the highs are mostly in the 40's; overnight lows in the 20's for Piney Creek. Hinds Valley is a nice site to have a look at in the vicinity of Piney Creek.
