CLASS III-IV+ 10.4 miles
The Wash-Pelfrey Road to Spring City stretch of Piney River in Tennessee is 10.4 miles long and has been rated as a class III-IV+ section by American Whitewater. The starting location is a short drive from Crossville, as you can see on the road map further down. The natural beauty of Tennessee and the cool fresh water are in themselves reasons enough to come here to paddle. If you've been whitewater rafting and kayaking outside this state you might find the rivers here a bit more challenging, so if you're visiting here do keep in mind that many runs in
this state are not easy. Getting some good exercise and just being out on the river for a while have people coming from far and near. You might have to settle for a hotel a bit away from the river if you want to stay the night, but if you don’t have reservations you might end up
sleeping in your car. Some people prefer whitewater rafting and some kayaking, either way this area has a large number of paddling places. There are some good sections to paddle in this river system, the Wash-Pelfrey Road to Spring City section is one of them. This section is long enough for an overnight trip if you take your time, so go ahead and pack your sleeping bag. The beautiful Cumberland Plateau Mountains scenery is an added bonus. There are campgrounds quite near the river where you can camp.
