The starting location is a short drive from Crossville, if you're not familiar with the area there's a road map further down the page. This stretch of Richland Creek in Rhea County is 1.5 miles long and it is classified as a class III-IV(V) section by American Whitewater. The average Tennessee whitewater rafting or kayaking river tends to be harder to run than those in other states, so don't forget that the rivers in this state are less manageable. There are no other stretches to paddle along Richland Creek than the Old Dayton Reservoir to Laurel-Snow
Parking Lot stretch. There are campgrounds quite near the river where you can camp. Some people prefer whitewater rafting and some kayaking, either way this area has a large number of paddling rivers. The natural beauty of Tennessee and the sparkling of the sunlight on the water
attract people from near and far. A good workout and just hanging out with mother nature have a lot of people coming here. There are some good hotels near the river, but if you don’t have reservations you might end up sleeping in your car. This is a short paddling stretch so better bring some good walking shoes. The beauty of the Cumberland Plateau Mountains is a great plus for this river.
Briefly about the general area: High temperatures at Richland Creek through the days of summer are in the 80's. Once the sun is down it falls down to the 60's.
For the period of the winter the highs are commonly in the 40's with winter lows in the 20's overnight here at Richland Creek. North Pole Gulf is close to Richland Creek and is a tremendous spot, and a spree to nearby Buzzard Point is very relaxing. This is such a wonderful
river. Snow Falls is always fun to check out. Richland Creek is a rather wet place regularly with a large amount of precipitation; the month with most of the rain is March, and October is when it's the driest. These mountains rock, just explore all the fun things to do in the Cumberland
Plateau Mountains. Put some time aside to spend at Laurel Falls since you're here at Richland Creek, and the Laurel-Snow Trail is a glorious hiking trail close by.
