Tennessee whitewater - Roaring River, Overton/ Jackson County Overton/ Jackson county, Highway 135 to Stock Gap Road Bridge section whitewater kayaking, rafting, and paddling information.   CLASS II-III     7 miles   In the lower part of the river, New Hope rd. put-in to the fish barrier dam is a delightful short trip of class I river. A interesting point is the Boils about halfway through this trip. The boils is a huge spring. Says Larry Lee Whitewater rafting and kayaking in Tennessee is often more difficult than elsewhere, so keep in mind that many of the sections here are not safe for beginners. The wonderful Overton/ Jackson County scenery and the sparkling of the sunlight on the water make the trip here worthwhile. The Highway 135 to Stock Gap Road Bridge     section of Roaring River is 7 miles long and is a class II-III section of whitewater according to American Whitewater. You might have to settle for a hotel a bit away from the river if you want to stay the night, but if you don’t have reservations you might end up sleeping in your car. Getting your paddling muscles activated and just hanging out with mother nature will have you coming back for more. Since you're on this site you are probably into whitewater rafting or kayaking, either way in this general area you'll find lots of paddling places. This is a pretty decent length section, it's perfect for a one day trip. The Highway 135 to Stock Gap Road Bridge stretch is the only paddling stretch along Roaring River. You can pitch a tent or park your RV at a nearby campground. The put-in location is a reasonable drive from Cookevi   lle, as you can see on the road map further down. Briefly about the general area: Wash Morgan Hollow is a magnificent spot to explore close by. Summer at Roaring River comes with high temperatures in the 80's, and through the night it cools down to the 60's. The cold days of the wintertime come with highs in the 40's, and winter nights come with lows in the 20's to Roaring River. Roaring River is a wet place that gets much precipitation; of all the months in a year March is the one with the most rain while October is generally the driest month.
