In the lower part of the river, New Hope rd. put-in to the fish barrier dam is a delightful short trip of class I river. A interesting point is the Boils about halfway through this trip. The boils is a huge spring. Says Larry Lee

The nature scenery of Tennessee and the water flowing gracefully down Roaring River are reasons enough to come here and paddle. The put-in location is a reasonable drive from Cookevi lle, there's a road map further down the page with more info on that. This stretch is mid length, it's good length for a morning trip.
    For all you camping people there are campgrounds nearby. No matter if you're whitewater rafting or kayaking around here you'll find a large number of good rivers. Great exercise and just being out on the river for a while will have you coming back for more. The nearby hotels are
a bit away from the river, but you'd better reserve in advance because these hotels fill up quick. Whitewater rafting and kayaking in Tennessee is often tougher than elsewhere, so you'd better keep in mind that lots of rivers here are not for beginners. This stretch of Roaring River in Tennessee is 7 miles long and has been rated as a class II-III section by American Whitewater.

Briefly about the general area:
A tour to Wash Morgan Hollow is always fun. During the summertime, highs regularly are in the 80's at Roaring River. Once the sun is
 
down it sinks down to the 60's. All through the wintertime the highs are commonly in the 40's, and night lows at Roaring River through the winter usually plunge into the 20's. Roaring River mostly gets a great deal of rainfall; March is the wettest month with most rain, and October is when it's the driest.
