The put-in is not too far from Chattanooga, there's a road map further down the page with more info on that. If you've been whitewater rafting and kayaking outside Tennessee you might find the rivers here a bit more challenging, so better not forget that lots of rivers here are not for beginners. Getting some good exercise and spending some quality time in nature are great attractions for lots of people. The Retro-Hughes Road to Leggett Road bridge stretch is one of a few paddling stretches in this river system. On this section you do get some distance,
it's good length for a morning trip. This section of Rock Creek in Bledsoe / Hamilton County is 9 miles long and has been determined by American Whitewater to be a class III-IV+ section. Some people prefer whitewater rafting and some kayaking, either way around here you'll find
a large number of good places. There aren’t any hotels right nearby but if you're willing to drive a short distance then no problem and if you make reservations in advance you're all set. If you're a camper you can camp at one of the great campgrounds nearby. The scenic beauty of Bledsoe / Hamilton County and the playfulness of the water will make you feel great. When you're paddling down a Cumberland Plateau Mountains river like this one you always get great scenery along the way too.
Briefly about the general area: The warmest time of the
year brings highs in the 80's to Rock Creek. Summer overnight lows sink down to the 60's. High temperatures through the winter are normally in the 40's, and night lows in the 20's for Rock Creek. All year is a wonderful time in the Cumberland Plateau Mountains if you have a thing
about the outdoors. A good deal of rainfall falls at Rock Creek; during the month of March you get the most rain around here; October on the other hand is the driest. A spree to Shingle Mill Hollow is always fun, and Clifton Bend is an interesting thing to catch a glimpse of if you're here.
