The rivers for whitewater rafting and kayaking here in Tennessee are often tougher than in other states, so if you're not from around here don't forget that the rivers in this state are less manageable. The beautiful scenery of Warren Van Buren County and the beautiful way the water current moves down the stream beats anything. You can pitch a tent or park your RV at a nearby campground. If you're coming from McMinnville it's not a long drive at all to the put-in location, if you're not familiar with the area there's a road map further down the page.
Whitewater paddling here in the Cumberland Plateau Mountains is a great experience. There are no other stretches to paddle along Rocky River than the to Caney Fork stretch. Not too many hotels nearby, you'll have to drive a bit to get to one, but you'd better reserve in advance
because these hotels fill up quick. A bit of exercise and spending some quality time in nature have people coming from far and near. Since you're on this site you are probably into whitewater rafting or kayaking, either way this is an area with plenty of places for that. On this section you do get some distance, it's perfect for a one day trip.
Briefly about the general area: The high level of rain makes Rocky River a relatively wet site; the month of March is the wettest with most of the rain while October is the month with the least amount
of precipitation. For the period of the long summer days at Rocky River temperatures are usually in the 80's with night lows in the 60's. The cold days of the winter come with highs in the 40's, and throughout the dark hours in the winter at Rocky River temperatures drop to the 20's.
