Hamilton
county,
Waldens Ridge to Jones Gap Road section whitewater kayaking, rafting, and paddling information.
CLASS IV-V+ 5.6 miles
The Waldens Ridge to Jones Gap Road stretch of Soddy Creek is 5.6 miles long and it is classified as a class IV-V+ section by American Whitewater. The wonderful Hamilton County scenery and the water flowing gracefully down Soddy Creek beats anything. The average whitewater rafting or kayaking river tends to be a bit harder to master in this state than those in other states, so if you're not from around here don't forget that lots of rivers here are not for beginners. There aren’t any hotels right nearby but if you're willing to drive a short distance then
no problem but do book a room before you come because it is a very popular destination. When you're paddling down a Cumberland Plateau Mountains river like this one you always get great scenery along the way too. You might be into whitewater rafting or kayaking or both, doesn't
matter, this is an area with plenty of places for that. Getting your paddling muscles activated and just being out on the river for a while have a lot of people coming here. This is the only paddling section along Soddy Creek. There are campgrounds quite near the river where you can camp. This stretch has has enough mileage, good for a one day paddling trip. The put-in location is a short drive from Chattanooga, as you can see on the road map further down.
