The Bridge above Bald River to bridge below Jared's Knee stretch of Tellico River in Tennessee is 2 miles long and has been rated as a class III-IV section by American Whitewater. The beautiful scenery of Monroe County and the cool fresh water beats anything. The put-in is not too far from Athens, there's a road map further down the page with more info on that. Whitewater rafting and kayaking in this state is often more difficult than elsewhere, so if you're visiting here do keep in mind that the rivers in this state are less manageable. Getting a good
workout and spending some quality time in nature are great reasons to come. This is a short paddling stretch so no need to bring snacks. The river winds through the Great Smoky Mountains and you get great scenery. You might have to settle for a hotel a bit away from the river if
you want to stay the night, but do book a room before you come because it is a very popular destination. This is not the only paddling section in this river system, there are others too. No matter if you're whitewater rafting or kayaking in this general area you'll find lots of paddling spots. There's camping available near Tellico River.
Briefly about the general area: At Tellico River during the warm days of summer highs are in the 80's. Once the sun is down it falls down to the 60's. The cold days of the wintertime come with highs in the
40's, and nighttime lows in the 20's for Tellico River. And if that's not enough there's a load more entertaining things to do in the Great Smoky Mountains. Papaw Cove is a pleasant place to check out nearby; you can have a good hiking adventure along the Bald River Trail.
Don't leave Tellico River without first paying a visit to Bald River Falls, and hiking along the Cow Camp Trail is pleasant fun. Tellico River gets a large amount of water; the wettest month of the year is frequently March, that's the one that rains the most, and October meanwhile is the driest month. At this river you will never have a bad time.
