The put-in location is a reasonable drive from Athens, if you're not familiar with the area there's a road map further down the page. And of course, there are campgrounds nearby. Getting a good workout and a chance to spend some time outdoors will make you glad you came. Not too many hotels nearby, you'll have to drive a bit to get to one, but you'd better reserve in advance because these hotels fill up quick. The beauty of     the Great Smoky Mountains is a great plus for this river. If you've been whitewater rafting and kayaking outside Tennessee you might find the rivers here a bit more challenging, so better not forget that rivers here are less forgiving. This stretch is mid length, it's good length for a morning trip. Since you're on this site you are probably into whitewater rafting or kayaking, either way this area has a large number of paddling rivers. The scenic beauty of Monroe County and the cool fresh water are reasons enough to come here and paddle. The Bridge below Jared's Knee to Ranger Station section is one of many paddling sections in this river system. Briefly about the general area: All year is a perfect time in the Great Smoky Mountains if you go for the outdoors. For the period of the days of summer at Tellico River temperatures   are commonly in the 80's; the nighttime is a tad colder of course, typically in the 60's. Highs during the wintertime are frequently in the 40's, and winter nights come with lows in the 20's to Tellico River. All the water falling down from the sky makes Tellico River a wet spot; the month with most of the rain is March, and the driest month of the year is October. While you're here at Tellico River you can take a hike along the Basin Gap Trail, and if the weather is perfect, you can go for a hike along the Basin Lead Trail.
