The scenic beauty of Tennessee and the sparkling of the sunlight on the water have people coming here. The put-in is not too far from Athens, as you can see on the road map further down. On this section you do get some distance, suitable for an afternoon trip. Since you're on this site you are probably into whitewater rafting or kayaking, either way in this general area you'll find lots of paddling places.     Whitewater rafting and kayaking in Tennessee is often more difficult than elsewhere, so better not forget that many of the rivers here are not very forgiving. For all you camping people there are campgrounds nearby. The Great Smoky Mountains scenery is wonderful. A bit of exercise and spending some quality time in nature will have you coming back for more. The Ranger Station to Tellico Plains section is one of many paddling sections in this river system. The nearby hotels are a bit away from the river, but do book a room before you come because it is a very popular destination. Briefly about the general area: Tellico River sees pretty high levels of rain; the wettest month of the year is ordinarily March, that's the one that rains the most; the driest month of the year is October. All the outdoors enjoyable things in the   Great Smoky Mountains will keep you coming back many times. While you're here at Tellico River you can take a hike along the Warriors Passage Trail. For the duration of the summertime months, highs commonly are in the 80's at Tellico River. For the period of the dark hours of summer temperatures descend down into the 60's. During the winter the highs are mostly in the 40's while Tellico River overnight low temperatures all through the winter are in the 20's. On a delightful day at Tellico River you can take a hike along the Basin Gap Trail, and nearby Aiken Hollow is a great location to go.
