Monroe
county,
Waucheesi to Tellico River section whitewater kayaking, rafting, and paddling information.
CLASS IV-V 3 miles
The Waucheesi to Tellico River section of Turkey Creek is 3 miles long and is a class IV-V section of whitewater according to American Whitewater. The wonderful Monroe County scenery and the playfulness of the water are in themselves reasons enough to come here to paddle. The rivers for whitewater rafting and kayaking in this state are often tougher than in other states, so if you're not from around here don't forget that a large number of rivers in this state are not easy. Whether you're whitewater rafting or kayaking there are lots of good places
for that around here. You can pitch a tent or park your RV at a nearby campground. You might have to settle for a hotel a bit away from the river if you want to stay the night, but you'd better reserve in advance because these hotels fill up quick. This is a pretty short section
so you'd better be prepared to walk your kayak back to put-in a few times. Great exercise and just hanging out with mother nature have people coming from far and near. When you're paddling down a Great Smoky Mountains river like this one you always get great scenery along the way too. Turkey Creek doesn't have a lot of paddling sections, the Waucheesi to Tellico River section is the only one. The starting location is a reasonable drive from Athens, please print out a copy of the road map further down the page so you won’t get lost.
