The average whitewater rafting or kayaking river tends to be a bit harder to master in this state than those in other states, so keep in mind that a lot of the rivers here are not suitable for beginners. The Waucheesi to Tellico River section of Turkey Creek in Tennessee is 3 miles long and is according to American Whitewater a class IV-V section of whitewater. This is a pretty short section so it's not like you're
gonna spend hours on the river in one stretch. The natural beauty of Tennessee and the playfulness of the water beats anything. Not too many hotels nearby, you'll have to drive a bit to get to one, but if you don’t have reservations you might end up sleeping in your car. The Great
Smoky Mountains scenery is wonderful. There are no other stretches to paddle along Turkey Creek than the Waucheesi to Tellico River stretch. You might be into whitewater rafting or kayaking or both, doesn't matter, this is an area with plenty of places for that. There are campgrounds quite near the river where you can camp. A good workout and just hanging out with mother nature have people coming from far and near.
Briefly about the general area: Turkey Creek commonly gets a large amount of rainfall; March is the wettest month with most rain, and
October is when it's the driest. And that's not everything you can do here in the Great Smoky Mountains. Near Turkey Creek you come across the Cow Camp Trail which is a splendid hiking trail. Through the warm days of summer highs here at Turkey Creek reach the 80's. When the
night sets in temperatures fall down into the 60's. Daytime highs through the winter are in the 40's; night lows at Turkey Creek throughout the winter typically fall into the 20's. Going for a hike on the Henderson Mountain Trail is always a wonderful adventure; Bald River Falls is a magnificent local attraction.
