CLASS IV-V 3 miles
The Waucheesi to Tellico River section of Turkey Creek in Tennessee is 3 miles long and is according to American Whitewater a class IV-V section of whitewater. The natural beauty of Tennessee and the cool fresh water are reasons enough to come here and paddle. Turkey Creek doesn't have a lot of paddling sections, the Waucheesi to Tellico River section is the only one. And of course, there are campgrounds nearby. Whitewater rafting
and kayaking in Tennessee is often tougher than elsewhere, so you'd better keep in mind that many of the sections here are not safe for beginners. The beauty of the Great Smoky Mountains is a great plus for this river. This section is quite short so it's not like you're gonna spend
hours on the river in one stretch. Getting some good exercise and spending some quality time in nature have a lot of people coming here. Not too many hotels nearby, you'll have to drive a bit to get to one, but do book a room before you come because it is a very popular destination. No matter if you're whitewater rafting or kayaking this is an area with plenty of rivers for that.
Briefly about the general area: Turkey Creek sees pretty high levels of rain; the month of March is the wettest with most of the rain, and October on the other hand is
the driest. Having a great time in the Great Smoky Mountains is easy. Near Turkey Creek you come across the Cow Camp Trail which is a pleasant hiking trail. Going for a hike on the Henderson Mountain Trail is always a splendid adventure, and a visit to Bald River Falls will
fill your spirit with great feelings. For the period of the summertime at Turkey Creek temperatures are mostly in the 80's, and the overnight is a tad cooler of course, ordinarily in the 60's.
