The sections for whitewater rafting and kayaking here in Tennessee are often more challenging than in other states, so better not forget that quite a few of the sections here are not easy. The put-in location is a short drive from Sevierville, there's a road map further down the page with more info on that. The Bridge below Alum Cave Creek confluence to Chimney's Trailhead section of Walker Camp Prong is 1.5 miles long and has been rated as a class IV-V section by American Whitewater. And of course, there are campgrounds nearby. This is the only paddling
section along Walker Camp Prong. Great exercise and spending some quality time in nature are great reasons to come. Some people prefer whitewater rafting and some kayaking, either way this area has a large number of paddling places. The scenic beauty of Tennessee and the cool fresh
water attract people from near and far. This section is quite short so you'd better be prepared to walk your kayak back to put-in a few times. When you're paddling down a Great Smoky Mountains river like this one you always get great scenery along the way too. Lodging is available near the river, and if you make reservations in advance you're all set.
Briefly about the general area: Walker Camp Prong gets a large amount of water; of all the months in a year March is the one with the most rain, and October is the month with the least moisture.
For the period of the warmest time of the year, highs generally are in the 80's at Walker Camp Prong. Once the sun is down it plunges down to the 60's. Through the wintertime highs are regularly in the 40's while the cold winter nights at Walker Camp Prong are in the 20's.
Rainbow Falls is always fun to check out; Walker Camp Prong is near Bearpen Hollow which is definitely worth visiting. And if that's not sufficient there's plenty more entertaining things to do in the Great Smoky Mountains.
