The put-in is not too far from Boone, please print out a copy of the road map further down the page so you won’t get lost. The nature scenery of Tennessee and the sparkling of the sunlight on the water have people coming here. Getting a good workout and just being out on the river for a while will make you glad you came. On this section you do get some distance, it's perfect for a one day trip. This section of Watauga in Tennessee is 4.9 miles long and is a class IV-V section of whitewater according to American Whitewater. This is not the only paddling section
in this river system, there are others too. The campgrounds here at Watauga are pretty good. Whitewater rafting and kayaking in Tennessee is often tougher than elsewhere, so if you're visiting here do keep in mind that many of the sections here are not safe for beginners. There
aren’t any hotels right nearby but if you're willing to drive a short distance then no problem but if you don’t have reservations you might end up sleeping in your car.
Briefly about the general area: Watauga gets a common amount of rainfall; the month of July is the wettest with most of the rain while October is regularly the driest month. Keller Gap is a magnificent place to visit nearby. Throughout the summertime months here at Watauga, high temperatures commonly get into the 80's. Throughout the moonlight hours it's generally in the 60's. High temperatures all through the wintertime are normally in the 40's with winter lows in the 20's overnight here at Watauga.
