Rt 68 to Possum Trot/Alloway Bridge section whitewater kayaking, rafting, and paddling information.
CLASS III+ 6.5 miles
The natural beauty of Rhea County and the cool fresh water attract people from near and far. The Rt 68 to Possum Trot/Alloway Bridge stretch of White's Creek is 6.5 miles long and is rated by American Whitewater as a class III+ section. The starting location is a short drive from Crossville, if you're not familiar with the area there's a road map further down the page. No matter if you're whitewater rafting or kayaking there are lots of good rivers for that around here. And of course, there are campgrounds nearby. There are a few other sections in
this river system that can be paddled as well. The nearby hotels are a bit away from the river, and if you make reservations in advance you're all set. The Cumberland Plateau Mountains scenery is wonderful. Whitewater rafting and kayaking in Tennessee is often more difficult than
elsewhere, so if you're not from around here don't forget that rivers here are not as easy as elsewhere. This section is long enough to enjoy a good non stop paddle, it's good length for a morning trip. Getting your paddling muscles activated and just being out on the river for a while are great attractions for lots of people.
Briefly about the general area: Be careful coming to the Cumberland Plateau Mountains, you might not ever wanna return home again. A short journey to Ray Falls is always worthwhile. The high level of rain makes White's
Creek a rather wet spot; of all the months in a year March is the one with the most rain; October on the other hand is the driest. Through the long summer days at White's Creek temperatures are usually in the 80's, and during summer nights temperatures are in the 60's. The
wintertime comes with highs in the 40's; after the sun is down through the winter temperatures at White's Creek plunge into the 20's. If you're here, you might as well go to Lick Hollow, and Hank Point is very near and is a good location to stop at.
