The Possum Trot/Alloway Road to Route 27 section of White's Creek in Tennessee is 6 miles long and is rated by American Whitewater as a class III section. The nature scenery of Tennessee and the cool fresh water are reasons enough to come here and paddle. The rivers for whitewater rafting and kayaking here in Tennessee are often tougher than in other states, so if you're not from around here don't forget that many of the sections here are not safe for beginners. This is a pretty decent length section, it's perfect for a one day trip. You might have to settle
for a hotel a bit away from the river if you want to stay the night, but you'd better reserve in advance because these hotels fill up quick. Getting some good exercise and just being out on the river for a while are great reasons to come. For all you camping people there are campgrounds
nearby. The Possum Trot/Alloway Road to Route 27 stretch is one of a few paddling stretches in this river system. When you're paddling down a Cumberland Plateau Mountains river like this one you always get great scenery along the way too. If you're coming from Harriman it's not a long drive at all to the starting location, as you can see on the road map further down. Some people prefer whitewater rafting and some kayaking, either way around here you'll find a large number of good rivers.
Briefly about the general area: Throughout the summertime
months at White's Creek highs are regularly in the 80's while night lows are regularly in the 60's. Daytime highs throughout the wintertime are in the 40's with temperatures at White's Creek dipping down into the 20's throughout winter nights. There's no way anybody can get bored
here in the Cumberland Plateau Mountains. Beech Bottom is an out of the ordinary thing to see if you're here at White's Creek; Laurel Falls is a gorgeous spot to take a look at while you're at White's Creek. This is such a wonderful river. Back Valley is a pleasant place to
spend some time at; a short trip to Roddy Spring is always worthwhile. Kirklen Bottom is an exciting location to have a look at while at White's Creek, and Big Neck is close at hand and always pleasant to stop at. White's Creek gets much water; most of the rain falls through March; October is when it's the driest.
