If you've been whitewater rafting and kayaking outside this state you might find the rivers here a bit more challenging, so better not forget that many of the sections here are not safe for beginners. The put-in location is a reasonable drive from Athens, as you can see on the road map further down. The scenic beauty of Tennessee and the playfulness of the water will make you feel great. No matter if you're whitewater rafting or kayaking this is an area with plenty of spots for that. This is the only paddling stretch along Wildcat Creek. The river winds
through the Great Smoky Mountains and you get great scenery. There are campgrounds quite near the river where you can camp. On this section you do get some distance, suitable for an afternoon trip. There aren’t any hotels right nearby but if you're willing to drive a short distance
then no problem but you'd better reserve in advance because these hotels fill up quick. A good workout and a chance to spend some time outdoors will have you coming back for more.
