The FR to Hiawassee River section of Wolf Creek in Polk County is 2.3 miles long and has been rated as a class IV+ section by American Whitewater. The sections for whitewater rafting and kayaking here in Tennessee are often more challenging than in other states, so if you're visiting here do keep in mind that a large number of rivers in this state are not easy. The put-in is not too far from Athens, there's a road map further down the page with more info on that. The nature scenery of Tennessee and the water flowing gracefully down Wolf Creek attract people
from near and far. You might be into whitewater rafting or kayaking or both, doesn't matter, in this general area you'll find lots of paddling spots. The Great Smoky Mountains scenery is wonderful. Getting some good exercise and spending some quality time in nature are sure to
keep you coming back for more. Wolf Creek doesn't have a lot of paddling stretches, the FR to Hiawassee River stretch is the only one. This is a bit of a short stretch so you'll have to walk back to the start over and over. You might have to settle for a hotel a bit away from the river if you want to stay the night, and if you make reservations in advance you're all set. If you're a camper you can camp at one of the great campgrounds nearby.

Take a hike on the Smith Mountain Trail. Wolf Creek gets much water; the month with most of the rain is March, and the driest of the months is October. Nearby Stone Pile Gap is a wonderful location to go if you're at Wolf Creek; you can have a magnificent hiking adventure along
the Unicoi Mountain Trail. Throughout the days of summer highs here at Wolf Creek reach the 80's. When the night sets in temperatures dip down into the 60's. The winter comes with highs in the 40's; overnight lows during the winter for Wolf Creek tend to be in the 20's.
