The SH 71 to Lost Creek stretch of Barton Creek in Texas is 12 miles long and is rated by American Whitewater as a class I-II section. The beautiful scenery of Travis County and the playfulness of the water are reasons enough to come here and paddle. This stretch is long enough for an overnight trip if you take your time, so go ahead and pack your camping stuff. The starting point is not too far from Austin-Round Rock, if you're not familiar with the area there's a road map further down the page. If you'll be staying in a hotel you're in luck, lodging
is available very near the river, but if you don’t have reservations you might end up sleeping in your car. Whitewater rafting and kayaking spots in Texas are easier than the national norm, so keep in mind that many runs in this state are very easy. Since you're on this site you
are probably into whitewater rafting or kayaking, either way in this general area you'll find lots of paddling places. A good workout and just hanging out with mother nature are great attractions for lots of people. There are some good sections to paddle in this river system, the SH 71 to Lost Creek section is one of them. And of course, there are campgrounds nearby.
Briefly about the general area: A great spot to stop at close to Barton Creek is Hebbingston Hollow, and if the weather is brilliant, you can go for a hike along the Waterfall Trail.

Put some time aside to spend at Canyon Spring if you're here at Barton Creek; while you're here you can take a hike along the Pecan Grove Trail. This is such a wonderful river.
