The nature scenery of Texas and the beautiful way the water current moves down the stream attract people from near and far. The average whitewater rafting or kayaking river tends to be a bit easier to master in this state than those in other states, so keep in mind that quite a few of the sections here are pretty easy. Some people prefer whitewater rafting and some kayaking, either way this is an area with plenty of spots for that. The put-in is not too far from Austin-Round Rock, if you're not familiar with the area there's a road map further down
the page. There are plenty of hotels here if you want to spend a night, and if you make reservations in advance you're all set. There's camping available near Barton Creek. This section has enough mileage for an overnight trip, so go ahead and pack your camp stove. This section
of Barton Creek in Texas is 12 miles long and has been rated as a class I-II section by American Whitewater. This river system has a few good paddling sections and the SH 71 to Lost Creek section is one of them.
Briefly about the general area: Take a hike on the Waterfall Trail, and why not take a refreshing hike along the Pecan Grove Trail. All through the summer months at Barton Creek temperatures are commonly in the 90's with nighttime lows in the 70's. The winter brings highs down to the 50's; nighttime lows in the 30's for Barton Creek.
This is a really good river. The amount of rainfall that falls at Barton Creek is close to the national average; May is the wettest month with most rain while December is the month with the least amount of precipitation. Canyon Spring is a brilliant local attraction, and a good place to visit nearby is Hebbingston Hollow.
