The starting point is not too far from Austin-Round Rock, if you're not familiar with the area there's a road map further down the page. The average Texas whitewater rafting or kayaking river tends to be easier to run than those in other states, so if you're visiting here do keep in mind that rivers here are less demanding. This is one of a small number of paddling stretches in this river system, there are a few others too. The Lost Creek to Loop 360 stretch of Barton Creek is 5 miles long and is a class III section of whitewater according to American Whitewater.
The natural beauty of Texas and the playfulness of the water are reasons enough to come here and paddle. There are many good hotels to choose from, but if you don’t have reservations you might end up sleeping in your car. Great exercise and spending some quality time in nature
are great reasons to come. And of course, there are campgrounds nearby. This stretch has has enough mileage, you can easily run it on an afternoon. You might be into whitewater rafting or kayaking or both, doesn't matter, in this general area you'll find lots of paddling spots.
Briefly about the general area: Going for a hike on the Turkey Creek Trail is always a tremendous adventure. Summertime at Barton Creek arrives with high temperatures in the 90's. For the duration of the dark hours of summer temperatures drop down into the 70's. During the wintertime
the highs are regularly in the 50's while Barton Creek night low temperatures throughout the wintertime are in the 30's. The amount of rainfall that falls at Barton Creek is close to the national average; the wettest month of the year is generally May, that's the one that rains
the most, and December is when it's the driest. It's always delightful to pop by Back Door Spring, and close by you hit upon the Bee Creek Trail which is a good hiking trail.
