Texas whitewater - Blanco River, Blanco Hays County
Blanco Hays
county,
Blanco to Wimberly section whitewater kayaking, rafting, and paddling information.
CLASS I-V(V+) 35 miles
Just got back from a three day trip down this river. It was very scenic and beautiful. All of my crew were quite beat up after this trip though. At flows around 400 cfs there are some serious rapids on this section. There were many damns and there was also a fence constructed across the river just upstream from the Narrows. Lots of debris from the previous fence was found everywhere downstream along the river, so be careful not to get caught in those. The Narrows was downright freaky, and be prepared to carry boats and gear a long distance to get around
this hazard. All in all it was a great trip. Says Todd
The beautiful scenery of Blanco Hays County and the sparkling of the sunlight on the water are reasons enough to come here and paddle. For all you camping people there are campgrounds nearby. A stretch of this length
does require some preparations, so it looks like you will be camping out. Some people prefer whitewater rafting and some kayaking, either way this is an area with plenty of rivers for that. There aren’t any hotels right nearby but if you're willing to drive a short distance then no problem but do book a room before you come because it is a very popular destination. There are some good stretches to paddle in this river system, the Blanco to Wimberly stretch is one of them. If you've been whitewater rafting and kayaking outside Texas you might find the rivers
here a bit more manageable, so keep in mind that many of the rivers here are not very demanding. Great exercise and just hanging out with mother nature are great attractions for lots of people. This section of Blanco River in Texas is 35 miles long and is a class I-V(V+) section
of whitewater according to American Whitewater.
