Spicewood Sprgs Road to Bull Cr Road section whitewater kayaking, rafting, and paddling information.
CLASS II-III 3.5 miles
Most years, Bull Creek can be paddled successfully only right after a heavy rain. It rises very quickly during storms because of the runoff from the surrounding hills, but it drains out just as quickly. There are no real rapids but several places where there are straight-down drops as much as 5 feet high. There are also LOTS of places where the stream bed widens so much that when the flow is average, the water is only a couple of inches deep. Unless you catch it right after a rain, you'll wind up having to walk about half the difference because there
isn't enough water to float a boat. Says Keith
The starting location is a short drive from Austin-Round Rock, as you can see on the road map further down. The beautiful scenery of Travis County and the beautiful way the water current moves down the stream are reasons enough
to come here and paddle. If you've been whitewater rafting and kayaking outside Texas you might find the rivers here a bit more manageable, so don't forget that a lot of the rivers here are suitable for beginners. Getting a good workout and just hanging out with mother nature are great attractions for lots of people. This section is quite short so you'll have to walk back to the start over and over. You can pitch a tent or park your RV at a nearby campground. This is the only paddling stretch along Bull Creek. There are some good hotels near the river,
but you'd better reserve in advance because these hotels fill up quick. The Spicewood Sprgs Road to Bull Cr Road stretch of Bull Creek is 3.5 miles long and is according to American Whitewater a class II-III section of whitewater.
