The Cayote to FM 2490 section of Childress Creek in Bosque McLennan County is 17 miles long and has been determined by American Whitewater to be a class II-III section. Whitewater rafting and kayaking spots in Texas tend to be more forgiving than the national average, so if you're visiting here do keep in mind that many of the sections here are safe for beginners. The starting location is a short drive from Waco,     as you can see on the road map further down. Some people prefer whitewater rafting and some kayaking, either way this area has a pretty small number of paddling spots. Getting a good workout and just hanging out with mother nature have a lot of people coming here. This section is long enough for an overnight trip if you take your time, so go ahead and pack your camp stove. The Cayote to FM 2490 stretch is the only paddling stretch along Childress Creek. You can pitch a tent or park your RV at a nearby campground. For the duration of the warmest time of the year highs here at Childress Creek get into the 90's; throughout summer nights temperatures are in the 70's.
