Whitewater rafting and kayaking spots in Texas tend to be more forgiving than the national average, so if you're not from around here don't forget that many of the rivers here are not very demanding. The beautiful scenery of Travis County and the playfulness of the water make the trip here worthwhile. The put-in is not too far from Austin-Round Rock, there's a road map further down the page with more info on that. A bit of exercise and a chance to spend some time outdoors are sure to keep you coming back for more. Some people prefer whitewater rafting
and some kayaking, either way there are lots of good places for that around here. The Austin Below Longhorn Dam section is one of a few paddling sections in this river system. This section of Colorado River in Texas is 0.1 miles long and is rated by American Whitewater as a class
II section. There are campgrounds quite near the river where you can camp. This is an extremely short stretch so it's not like you're gonna spend hours on the river in one stretch. There are plenty of hotels here if you want to spend a night, but if you don’t have reservations you might end up sleeping in your car.
Briefly about the general area: Throughout the summer months, highs mostly are in the 90's at Colorado River, and throughout summer nights temperatures are in the 70's. The cold days of the winter come with highs in the 50's with
temperatures at Colorado River dipping down into the 30's all through winter nights. Good hiking is available along the Roy Guerrero Colorado River Park Trail; Oak Spring is a fine local attraction. A normal amount of rain falls here at Colorado River; of all the months in
a year May is the one with the most rain while January is usually the driest month. This river is always fun. You're sure to come across some wonderful folks from Austin-Round Rock here; hiking is a popular thing to do around Colorado River; Boggy Creek Greenbelt Trail is a pleasant local trail.
