The starting point is not too far from Austin-Round Rock, if you're not familiar with the area there's a road map further down the page. For all you camping people there are campgrounds nearby. No matter if you're whitewater rafting or kayaking around here you'll find a large number of good rivers. Whitewater rafting and kayaking in Texas is often easier than elsewhere, so don't forget that lots of rivers here are good for beginners. This     river system has a few good paddling sections and the Austin Below Longhorn Dam section is one of them. This stretch is very short so better bring some good walking shoes. No need to look hard for hotels, but if you don’t have reservations you might end up sleeping in your car. The natural beauty of Texas and the cool fresh water are reasons enough to come here and paddle. A bit of exercise and just being out on the river for a while are great reasons to come. Briefly about the general area: The beauty of mother nature reveals herself at Oak Spring; do take a hike on the Roy Guerrero Colorado River Park Trail. Have a perfect hiking adventure along the Boggy Creek Greenbelt Trail, and there are plenty of people from Austin-Round Rock here at Colorado River. This river is so good. An average amount of rainfall falls   at Colorado River; the month of May is the wettest with most of the rain, and the driest month of the year is January. At Colorado River during the warmest time of the year highs are in the 90's. When the night sets in temperatures sink down into the 70's. The winter comes with highs in the 50's, and nighttime lows in the 30's for Colorado River.
