Whitewater rafting and kayaking spots in this state tend to be more forgiving than the national average, so keep in mind that the rivers in this state are less demanding. The nature scenery of Texas and the playfulness of the water make the trip here worthwhile. Not too many hotels nearby, you'll have to drive a bit to get to one, but if you don’t have reservations you might end up sleeping in your car. And of course, there are campgrounds nearby. The Bend to Colorado Bend State Rec Area stretch of Colorado River is 16 miles long and is according to American
Whitewater a class I-II section of whitewater. If you hurry you can run this section in a day but why not make it an overnighter, so pack your camping stuff. The Bend to Colorado Bend State Rec Area stretch is one of a few paddling stretches in this river system. Since you're on
this site you are probably into whitewater rafting or kayaking, either way this is an area with not too many other spots for that.
Briefly about the general area: This is a really good river. Hughes Hollow is right next door to Colorado River and is undeniably a good spot to stop at It's always good to stop by Gorman Falls. The warmest time of the year brings highs in the 90's to Colorado River, and the nighttime is rather colder of course, regularly in the 70's. Daytime highs through the wintertime are in the 50's, and nighttime lows through
the winter for Colorado River tend to be in the 30's. Near Colorado River you hit upon the Colorado Bend State Park Trail which is a great hiking trail, and do put some time aside to spend at Gorman Spring while you're here at Colorado River. Colorado River is a good spot of normal rain; all through the month of May you get the most rain around here; the driest month is January.
