CLASS I-II 16 miles
This section of Colorado River is 16 miles long and is a class I-II section of whitewater according to American Whitewater. If you've been whitewater rafting and kayaking outside Texas you might find the rivers here a bit more manageable, so if you're visiting here do keep in mind that rivers here are not as hard as elsewhere. The nature scenery of Texas and the playfulness of the water make the trip here worthwhile. Getting some good exercise and a chance to spend some time outdoors will have you coming back for more. Since you're on this site you
are probably into whitewater rafting or kayaking, either way this is an area with not too many other rivers for that. If you have the time you can make this a two day trip, so why not pack your sleeping bag too. Not too many hotels nearby, you'll have to drive a bit to get to one,
and if you make reservations in advance you're all set. There are a few other stretches in this river system that can be paddled as well. The campgrounds here at Colorado River are pretty good.
Briefly about the general area: The Colorado Bend State Park Trail is a nice hiking trail in the vicinity of Colorado River, and do put some time aside to spend at Gorman Falls if you're here at Colorado River. All through the summer months here at Colorado River, high temperatures mostly reach the 90's. All through the moonlight hours it's usually in the
70's. During the winter highs are in the 50's while the cold winter nights at Colorado River are in the 30's. If you come to this river you will have a good time for sure. From a precipitation point of view Colorado River is a reasonably normal place; during May this area sees
the most rain, and January on the other hand is the driest. Near Colorado River you hit upon Hughes Hollow which is a wonderful location to go to, and Gorman Spring is a glorious local attraction.
