The put-in is not too far from Killeen-Temple-Fort Hood, if you're not familiar with the area there's a road map further down the page. Whitewater rafting and kayaking in Texas is often easier than elsewhere, so if you're not from around here don't forget that many of the sections here are safe for beginners. The Parsley to Pidcoke section of Cowhouse Creek is 33 miles long and has been rated as a class II+ section by American Whitewater. A stretch of this length does require some preparations, so it looks like you will be camping out. Getting some good
exercise and a chance to spend some time outdoors are great attractions for lots of people. If you're a camper you can camp at one of the great campgrounds nearby. You might have to settle for a hotel a bit away from the river if you want to stay the night, but you'd better reserve
in advance because these hotels fill up quick. You might be into whitewater rafting or kayaking or both, doesn't matter, in this general area you won't find many other paddling spots. The nature scenery of Hamilton Coryell County and the water flowing gracefully down Cowhouse Creek are in themselves reasons enough to come here to paddle. The Parsley to Pidcoke section is the only paddling section along Cowhouse Creek.
