  The Eckert Road to FM 965 section of Crabapple Creek in Texas is 8 miles long and it is classified as a class IV+ section by American Whitewater. The average whitewater rafting or kayaking river tends to be a bit easier to master in this state than those in other states, so better not forget that quite a few of the sections here are pretty easy. The campgrounds here at Crabapple Creek are pretty good. The wonderful Gillespie County scenery and the playfulness of the water beats anything. Getting some good exercise and a chance to spend some time outdoors
    have a lot of people coming here. You might have to settle for a hotel a bit away from the river if you want to stay the night, but if you don’t have reservations you might end up sleeping in your car. This is the only paddling stretch along Crabapple Creek. On this section you
do get some distance, it's perfect for a one day trip. You might be into whitewater rafting or kayaking or both, doesn't matter, this is an area with plenty of rivers for that.

Briefly about the general area:
Going for a hike on the Echo Canyon Trail is always a tremendous adventure; nearby you hit upon Fool Gap which is a good place to visit. Crabapple Creek gets a normal amount of rainfall; May is the wettest month with most rain while January is frequently the driest month.
At Crabapple Creek throughout the warmest time of the year highs are
 
in the 90's. When the night sets in temperatures sink down into the 70's. All through the winter highs are in the 50's with winter lows in the 30's overnight here at Crabapple Creek. Near Crabapple Creek you find the Summit Trail which is a magnificent hiking trail.
