Says gsommerfield@stes.com Whitewater rafting and kayaking in Texas is often easier than elsewhere, so if you're not from around here don't forget that a lot of the rivers here are suitable for beginners. The US 83 to FM 2690 stretch of Dry Frio River in Uvalde County is 12 miles long and has been rated as a class II-III(IV) section by American Whitewater. The starting location is a reasonable drive from Uvalde, if you're not familiar with the area there's a road map further down the page. You might     have to settle for a hotel a bit away from the river if you want to stay the night, but do book a room before you come because it is a very popular destination. There are campgrounds quite near the river where you can camp. This section has enough mileage for an overnight trip, so why not pack your sleeping bag too. The wonderful Uvalde County scenery and the water flowing gracefully down Dry Frio River are reasons enough to come here and paddle. A good workout and just hanging out with mother nature are great attractions for lots of people. This is the only paddling stretch along Dry Frio River. No matter if you're whitewater rafting or kayaking there are not so many other good spots for that around here. Briefly about the general area: A spree to Long Canyon is always fun, and people from Uvalde love to come here.   High temperatures at Dry Frio River through the summertime are in the 90's, and through summer nights temperatures are in the 60's. Daytime highs throughout the winter are in the 60's, and winter nights come with lows in the 30's to Dry Frio River. The yearly precipitation here at Dry Frio River is about average; the month with most of the rain is October, and the driest of the months is December.
