Texas whitewater - Hog Creek, McLennan County McLennan county, Patton Church to Speegleville Road section whitewater kayaking, rafting, and paddling information.   CLASS II     13 miles   Speegleville Road is not a good takeout point. A better trip would start from the low water crossing at Shiloh Baptist Church about 1 mi north of Hwy 185. Go all the way down to Lake Waco, cross the lake NE for 1 mi and take out at the City of Woodway Park at the end of Estates Dr. Total River distance is 12 miles. Water has to be 100-200cfs or better to be navigable upstream of the private road bridge on McLennan Crossing Rd which is 3.5 miles up from the mouth of Hog Creek at Lake Waco. Springtime fishing is good for white bass, largemouth bass, and     crappie from McLennan Crossing Bridge to Lake Waco along Hog Creek. Says WacoPadlr Whitewater rafting and kayaking spots in Texas tend to be more forgiving than the national average, so don't forget that rivers here are not as hard as elsewhere. The Patton Church to Speegleville Road section of Hog Creek is 13 miles long and is rated by American Whitewater as a class II section. The put-in location is a reasonable drive from Waco, there's a road map further down the page with more info on that. This is the only paddling section along Hog Creek. A good workout and a chance to spend some time outdoors have a lot of people coming here. The wonderful Texas scenery and the beautiful way the water current moves down the stream attract people from near and far. There aren’t any hotels right nearby but if you're willing to drive a   short distance then no problem but if you don’t have reservations you might end up sleeping in your car. This stretch is long enough for an overnight trip if you take your time, so go ahead and pack your camp stove. No matter if you're whitewater rafting or kayaking this area has a pretty small number of paddling spots. You can pitch a tent or park your RV at a nearby campground. Briefly about the general area: Hog Creek gets a common amount of annual precipitation; during the month of May you get the most rain around here; December is when it's the driest. For the period of the warm months, highs ordinarily are in the 90's at Hog Creek; through summer nights temperatures are in the 70's. High temperatures all through the winter are normally in the 50's, and through the dark hours in the wintertime at Hog Creek temperatures dip to the 30's.
